🚂 India On The Move
Stories from a Pan-India Journey in the General Dabbas of Indian Railways
The general compartments of Indian Railways provide a rare window into the heart and soul of India. In these crowded, unpredictable spaces, strangers talk, argue, and confide in one another - often without the filters that shape our everyday interactions.
ABOUT THE LECTURE
Drawing from a 17-day journey across India, this lecture employs images, videos, and anecdotes to explore how people navigate the physical and emotional constraints of travelling in general dabbas and form unexpected connections in the process. Through stories shaped by migration, class, caste, gender, and faith, we will meet everyday Indians who carry hope of finding dignity in a world beyond their control. Moving between the personal and the political, the lecture invites you to look beyond the idea of travel as consumption, and towards understanding journeys as spaces of encountering the self and the other, and experiencing our shared humanity.
